SWANS HEAD TO QUEEN STREET ON OPENING DAY!

20th July 2023

MFL DIVISION ONE FIXTURES ANNOUNCED!

The fixture list for the new season has been revealed and the Steelmen will be at home on opening day to Stapenhill as a busy August sees seven fixtures taking place.

"I didn't mind who we played in the first game, I was just hoping we would be at home," said manager Mike Dunn after learning of the fixtures this morning.

The visit of the Swans is followed by a midweek trip to play-off finalists Droitwich Spa with a return home four days later to face promotion favourites Hinckley AFC, who fell to Droitwich in the play-off semi finals back in May and will face a re-match with them on opening day!

"The opening month is tough for us but it is the same for others like Hinckley and Droitwich," said the manager as he continues to plan for the start of the competitive fixtures.

Our first, and currently only home midweek league fixture, sees Shawbury United head to Queen Street before a trip to Coton Green and a second trip to Droitwich, this time in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase.

The final fixture in August sees Coventry Copsewood, the first team to take points off Bilston in league action last season, head to WV14 on August Bank Holiday Monday.

September throws up trips to Chelmsley Town, OJM and newcomers Sutton United while Paget Rangers and Cradley Town will head to Queen Street with our first derby with Wednesfield away from home on 14th October, the return being scheduled in late March.

Boxing Day sees us host Smethwick Rangers while the reverse of that fixture will take place on the other Bank Holiday date - Easter Monday 1st April.

The reduced number of midweek matches is a relief for the management team as last season saw opportunities to train limited by a relentless two games per week schedule.

"The season as a whole looks a lot easier to plan, settle and make training a regular thing. I know the weather may play a part later in the season but fewer midweek matches at the start of the season will make it easier both mentally and physically," added Dunn.

"We are looking forward to getting back to playing for points, no more messing and down to business."

All fixtures are subject to change due to cup commitments and postponements and we will keep you up to date of any changes as the season progresses.
